We’ve gigged in Brighton for many years now with various bands and varying degrees of success. In the last few years in particular we felt like the Brighton music scene lost its soul a little bit. The bands were great but the promoters variable and the crowds a bit fed up of seeing the same sorts of event week in week out. It's disheartening to go out and see 4 great bands play to an empty room on a Tuesday night because most local venues have Friday and Saturday nights block booked all year by larger promoters and club nights.

So the idea was to make this a bit different - lets go totally DIY and see what happens!

Last year we made sure the line-up was put together in such a way that if you like your mates band you'll probably at least like the 1 before and the 1 after, and probably all the others too. The result was a sell out show, a busy venue all day, and a feeling that we'd done something pretty special! This year is all about more of the same - and better...

We're thrilled to be able to confirm the line up for the 2018 Off The Record - Independent Music Festival:

1 in Five - An independent Hard Rock Blues band best known for writing songs about politics, the environment, and social injustice.

Mr Happy Chainsaw - Poppy Punk Rock from Essex, this years ‘out of town’ band representing the wider independent music scene. So moreish if they were a cocktail you’d be an alcoholic.

Tenderhooks - Joining us for a second year playing their unique brand of upbeat, cheeky, pop-rock originals. There will be sax!!

Iamwarface - Bombastic high-energy Electro-Rock with a fusion of 80’s style vocals, abstract guitars, moody layered synths and pounding drums.

Caaw - A seductive circus fanfare of pure original tunes with hints of dive bar jazz, delta blues, East European folk and the dark lure of cabaret.

40 Shillings On The Drum - Folk rock’s finest, armed to the teeth with an array of songs about life, love, friendship, and getting smashed out of your brain.

ShotGun 21 - New Wave Rock blending influences from Punk, 90's Alternative, Grunge, with a bit of Rave for good measure.

Levity - Combining elements of rock and soul with a generous sprinkling of funk and blues, these guys are both interesting and exciting to listen to.

Black Spring - Alternative Grunge Pop with catchy guitar licks, a driving rhythm section and gritty vocals.

Dan Cox & The Blackbirds - Indie Brit Rock combining catchy lyrics, lovely hooks & delicious beats that will force you to sing along!

Lee Ainley's Blues Storm - Original Southern Rock & Blues from this unique mother & daughter fronted band, playing on the eve of their début national tour.

As you can see - it's a line up you won't want to miss! Grab yourself a pair of tickets and listen out for further announcements!
